Situation: My eyebrows are totally out of controlUsual Remedy: Wax them myself with Sallie's Beauty Supply Microwaveable Wax
Dilema: Even if I could locate a Sallie's, we have no microwave
Solution: Shobha Soho Eyebrow Threading
So this is how it all went down. I had thought I might be able to get in at the Aveda Institute a couple of blocks down just to get my eyebrows cleaned up. However, the first appointment they had was Tuesday of next week. I really wanted to get them done before we go out with Hal & Lori tonight, so I had to find somewhere else. When faced with a situation of needing a certain good/service but not having any idea of where a good place may be, I turn to yelp.com - it's like my own personal advisor for city life. So I go to Yelp & type in waxing near our address. The first one to come up is Shobha & it has a 4.5/5 rating, which is really good. So I call to see about getting an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed. However, the super nice girl on the phone informs me they only wax below the neck (no thanks!) and everything above the neck is done via threading. Now, I have seen signs advertising threading, but I just assumed it was some type of weird piercing. So, I ask the girl - does this involve needles? She quickly informed me it did not, so I figured what the heck, I'll give it a go. For moral support, I brought along my friend, Cassie, from church. So, we get there & it turns out to be the most non-intimidating experience ever. My "threader" was super nice & a total brow expert (lol - her first statement, was "oh, so you have been doing your eyebrows yourself?"). She pulls out a spool of thread (just like you would sew with) and wraps it around her fingers and has the end of it in her mouth. I couldn't really see what was going on b/c I had my eyes closed the whole time, but Cassie explained that she kind of used her mouth & hands to create friction in the thread that was intertwined between her fingers - she said it was almost like a dance the way the threader moved her hands/arms & head. Anyways, it was super quick (like 10 min. for the whole process), virtually painless (comparable to tweezing), and now my brows look great! Not to mention the salon was really cool - it had this great, colorful Indian vibe to it. When it was all over, the threader instructed me not to tweeze them in the middle (apparently I have gotten them too far apart for my face shape), and that she would see me back in 3 weeks. And she will! I am definitely a convert.
HOT TIP: If you're coming to visit, restrain yourself from tweezing your eyebrows for a few weeks & try eyebrow threading at Shobha Soho - it's a pretty cool experience! Also, it's great if you have sensitive skin (like me) that doesn't react well to waxing.

hmmmmm, was it expensive? it sounds pretty cool, but i still don't understand what they did...plucked with string?
i, too, was lectured about having my eyebrows too far apart last time i waxed....
oh, yeah, you have no microwave???? i couldn't survive....how else to eat? (poor rob...no wonder he's left for virginia!)
hey page! it wasn't expensive - only $20. i really couldn't explain how it all works, but it's not really plucking b/c it pulls hairs out in a straight, very thin line, so it's more than 1 hair at a time.
NO MICROWAVE - i know right? i should have put that in all bold in the original post. it has turned out to be quite a hassle! i'm really tempted to get one, but that would mean crowding my kitchen (and counter tops even more than they already are), so I'm trying to refrain from doing so.
and it wasn't your cooking that made rob go to virginia! no doubt it was his desire to provide the best life possible for you, winston, sela, boo kitty & all your future little rob & pages!
I had just finished reading the post above this one and when I briefly glanced at the picture at the top of this post, I thought it said "Snob." Of course, upon looking at it a little closer, I realized that is not what it said, but I still thought my inital observation was funny :)
I am SOOOO getting my eyebrows threaded when we come to visit! Hopefully Payton can bear with me during the "growing out" stage 2-3 weeks prior to our visit.
I am going to try now for the first time this THREADING. I saw this lady, her eyebrows were so pretty and I asked her where did she get them waxed. And she told me, no, they are threaded not waxed. So I am looking foward till tomorrow. This establishment has been in business for at least ten years strong, so they are doing something right! (I had stopped by today, I would have had like no wait, but was with my 2 kids so I want to go back without them, ME TIME.
Gettin ready for Superbowl XLII
Yea-e-ay!
