Billable Hours

1.  It's amazing how much time it takes to get ready in the mornings when you have a "real job".  When I was in school, I woke up 30 min. before my first class started, tops.  That gave me apx. 5 mins. to get out of bed, 15. mins. to get out the door and and 10 mins. to walk to school.  Boy has that changed!  Now it's more like a 2 hr. routine - and in all truth, I can only blame an extra 10 mins. on the commute (a fact which I am extremely grateful for - God bless the express train).  I had forgotten how long it takes to wash, dry & style my hair and put on makeup every morning - what a pain!  I realized just how much I had forgotten this daily ritual when Chris remarked how happy he was that I was working now because it meant I actually did my hair every day.  The best part was the way he smiled sweetly so confident in his compliment.

2.  One man I work with wears suspenders.  Really.  Which makes me wonder - how does one become a suspender-wearer?  I mean, it's a pretty big commitment - goodbye belts, hello elastic bands over your shoulders Mon. - Fri. for the rest of your life.  Do you just wake up one day and make that decision or do your parents indoctrinate you from an early age?

**More musings to come.  I plan on making this a (somewhat) regular column to chronicle my assimilation into the ranks of the working class.**

I think you have to inherit the suspender-wearing. I think it's like lots of things that guys inherit from their dads, like underwear-type, how you knot your tie, etc.

Don't be too hard on Chris. :)

Welcome to the world of getting up two hours before work!! If only we had more manageable hair! And Chris's comment sounds EXACTLY like something Rob would say. And Rob wouldn't get it either. LOL!

I LOVE the new blog decor and think it's so cool that you can actually SEE your building in that pic! I want to come visit soon!! (Well, maybe after the winter.)

Now, about the suspenders (can you tell it's a slow day at work for me, since I'm writing this essay...) I once had a professor in college (Astronomy) who always wore suspenders WITH CARTOON CHARACTERS ON THEM! So, my take is that all suspender wearing folk are indoctrinated at a young age. Or maybe they just really embrace their nerdiness. Or both. And you know what? He was one of my favorite teachers in college.
