have a bad rep for being rude. So, to restore faith in the residents of this great city, I offer you the following stories from this weekend:
1. Chris & I were looking for a store (Pearl River Mart) in SoHo. I had been there before & knew we were close, but couldn't quite remember which direction it was in. So, I asked a street vendor, but she didn't know. However, a lady was walking by (mid-20s), overheard me asking the vendor and then said it was south (we were currently headed north). So we turned around and headed south on Broadway towards Canal St. Well, by the time we reached the next intersection, the same lady came chasing after us to tell us that she had pointed us in the wrong direction and that it was actually less than a block north of where we were. Can you believe that - not only was she nice enough to stop in the first place to give us directions, but then went out of her way to find us when she realized she'd pointed us in the wrong direction. That made my day!
2. Fast-forward to the next day at lunchtime, we had been shopping at Macy's, so we were eating at Cucina in the basement (so yummy!). Chris & I found an empty seat at a long table full of people & were sitting across from each other. The lady sitting next to me (late 20s) had a piece of cornbread and I commented that it smelled really good. Upon hearing this she asked me if I would like to have some of it because there was no way she would finish all of it. For real! (**FYI - I did not eat the cornbread. As totally impressed as I was by her offer, I don't make it a habit of eating off of strangers' plates, no matter how delicious they may smell).
3. Now it's dinner & we are over at our friends' house (Denise & Vineet). Denise had these beautiful elephants hanging on her wall and I told her they were really pretty. She then told me she had bought several of them on her trip to India earlier this summer and insisted that I take a set home.
Seriously - that was my weekend. I think just to try my luck I will compliment the next person I see with a totally fabulous diamond ring ;p!
