Wicked - We Won The Lottery!

Friday night Chris & I decided to try to get what are called Rush tickets for a Broadway show. These are tickets you get the day of a show and are generally around $25 per person as opposed to over $100 per person. Each show has their own way of doing it, some require you to be a student to qualify for rush tickets, but some don't. Well, Wicked, is one of the hottest musicals on Broadway right now and we had heard it was really good from several people, so I decided we should try to get Rush tickets to it. The way Wicked does Rush tickets is a lottery - everyone shows up at 5:30 & puts their name in the drawing, then, at 6:00 14 names are drawn, and if your name is drawn, you can purchase up to 2 tickets (I think they were like $26.25 each) for the 8:00 performance. Chris was totally pessimistic thinking there was no way we would get tickets even before we got there and saw how many people were in line already (this is about 5:00). Well, I insisted we at least give it a shot, eventhough by 5:30, there were probably 200 people in line. So, to make a long story short, Chris' name was drawn! We got front row seats in the very center of the theatre right behind the conductor & orchestra pit for a total steal! The show was phenomenal - probably the best show I have ever seen. The sets, costumes, music, singing & acting were all extroidinary and the story was totally engaging, funny, touching and thought-provoking. Honestly, it is everything a show should be. If the show itself were not enough, the conductor was just icing on a perfect cake. It wasn't the regular conductor, it was his assistant, a guy probably our age, or a little older. He was hilarious as well - it was like we were getting to watch two shows! He was constantly dancing along to the beats & miming different emotions if the song was sad, or happy, or whatever. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen on Broadway & he wasn't even a part of the show! The only downside was having to take my eyes of the show to see was he was doing & then having to take my eyes off of him to fully concentrate on the show!! What a night!

HOT TIP: If you come to New York, you absolutely must see Wicked!
