21st Floor Walk-Up . . . SERIOUSLY!

A good friend once told me, "never live higher than you are willing to climb."  She was imparting wisdom she had gained from her own life experiences living in New York the summer they experienced (the locally infamous) black-outs.  Being the cautious person that I am, the first year we moved here I totally heeded her advice.  We lived on the second floor even though our building had an elevator.  But, when it came time to look for a new place, I fell in love with the view from the 47th floor.  And tonight, I paid for not submitting to my practical nature.  We arrived home from bible study (which we went to straight from work) a little after 10:00 p.m. to find that a pipe had burst in our building and there was no elevator service north of the 26th floor.  Which means - you guessed it - 21 flights of stairs to climb to reach our apartment!  21 flights is a lot of stairs at any rate, but in full winter garb, including a wool coat, and carrying my work bag (poor Chris had his laptop too), it's even more unbearable!  I suppose one day we'll look back at this & laugh about just another NYC rite of passage.  Needless to say, today is not that day.  I don't think tomorrow will be either (I can feel the soreness coming on already!).
