So, this weekend marks the end of visitors & visiting for a while. Beginning today, it's back to real life as I have lots and lots of studying to do before I put my last semester of school behind me. Our friend Sabrina was in town this past Wed. thru Sat. It was great to get to see her & I think she really enjoyed the city. We did the usual things, but one highlight for me was going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I had actually never been to the Met before. It's one of those things we were always planning to do one day, but just never find ourselves on the Upper East Side with nothing to do. The museum is huge and really impressive - such a great place to just wander! My favorite find there were these plates. They're the exact pattern I was thinking of registering for in my fine china when Chris & I got married. I ended up not chosing them b/c they are crazy expensive (over $500 a place setting), but I've always really loved them. Well, the Met sells the exact plates, but they're tin (not bone china) and not expensive at all. They look just as beautiful & I love them, so I picked up a set of 8. We haven't eaten off of them yet, but just sitting in my cabinets, they make me happy =).
Also while Sabrina was in town, we got rush tickets for Hairspray. She was SOOOOO excited - she loves the movie & really wanted to see the musical. It was so cute to see her name drawn for the rush lottery - she was even the first person picked! I wasn't really that excited about seeing the play - the movie was a little over the top for me, but in the end, I enjoyed the musical. I must admit that the crowd there was INSANE! I have never heard a more energetic crowd, which of course, only adds to the whole experience.
Saturday morning, I made pancakes & we ate breakfast around 11:00. Then, Chris & I walked Sabrina over to the subway & said goodbye. The remainder of the weekend was the most laid-back we've had in a while. We started a movie around noon (Martian Child - it was sweet, you should netflix it) and didn't eat lunch til around 3:00. Then Chris decided he wanted to take me to this really cute little bakery in the West Village for some hot tea & something sweet. It was the most precious little place called Out of the Kitcken. The West Village is so picture perfect - on our short walk there, we passed a baseball field with little kids playing ball & their parents all watching them in the bleachers. It brought back a lot of memories! Anyways after we were finishing Chris said, hey, that's Will Arnett. I turned around & sure enough, GOB Bluth (his character's name on Arrested Development, I didn't know his real name) was standing right outside the window from our table. Well, we had already paid our bill, so we left the restaurant to get an up close & personal look (w/out being too obvious, of course). Sure enough, we heard him talking & it was definitely him! So cool - my first celebrity sighting did not disappoint. He was so stylish in his black jeans, aviator sunglasses & fedora. Here's a picture of him below for those of you who might recognize him (admittedly, he's no superstar, but Chris really likes him, so it made it even that more special).

Will Arnett w/ his wife Amy Poehler (she's a castmember on Saturday Night Live). They were both in the Will Farrell movie, Blades of Glory.

After our celebrity encounter, we headed over to Hudson River Park to enjoy the beautiful spring day & watch the sun set over the river. There was such a cool vibe there - so many people out & about doing nothing really at all. While there, I decided that I really want to live in the West Village when our lease is up in Aug. We even found the perfect building, The Archive, only to discover that a studio loft goes for $4,800/mo. in the building. And we were hoping to upsize to at least a 1 BR =)! So, toss that idea, maybe we won't be living at The Archive, but I haven't given up on the West Village altogheter! We walked back through the West Village til we reached home & watched our second movie of the day, In America (such a beautiful film about a sweet Irish family who imigrates to NYC, definitely Netflix this one!). Saturday reminded me a lot of the early weekends we spent familiarizing ourselves with the city. It was awesome because sometimes I get so caught up in my life here that I forget to really appreciate living in the city. I'm glad I was able to reconnect with that joy on Saturday.
Sunday we went to church, but actually got home pretty early (before 3:00 p.m.) because a lot of our friends weren't there and/or had plans, so we didn't lunch as usual. Chris & I ate lunch at the house and then did laundry & cleaned house. Joanna & Kyle came over and we had such a good time playing Spades (Chris & I actually won!) and just visiting over Famous Ben's pizza and mint chocolate chip icecream. It was the perfect lazy weekend to kick off the frantic study mania that is about to ensue!
