In Laws In Town

My flight arrived from LAX into JFK a little before midnight on Friday night. Chris' sister (Corey), brother-in-law (Jeff), father (Brian) & father's wife (Jane) had already made it into town by then. So, I met up with Chris, Corey & Jeff (who were staying with us) at our apartment around 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning. It was great to get to visit with Corey & Jeff that night! They are both such awesome people & being around them is always a delight! After catching a couple hours of sleep, we were all up again. Chris & everyone else headed to Century 21 for some bargain shopping and then to Macy's. I was in desperate need of clean clothes, so I stayed behind to take care of some laundry before meeting back up with them around lunchtime. We ate at the famous Tavern on the Green in Central Park - the place is absolutely humongous! We were seated in the Crystal Room which was really pretty - they have lots of different chandeliers & the entire room is windowed so you can see out into the park. It was a pretty cool experience! Afterwards, we wandered through the park a bit & shopped down 5th Ave. before heading back to get ready for that night's show. Saturday night we went to Cirque du Soleil's Wintuk at Madison Square Garden. It wasn't my favorite Cirque, but it never ceases to amaze me the things those performers can do!

Autumn seems to have come late this year, but I was able to get a couple of shots of the leaves changing for you Floridians out there =).

Sunday we headed down to South Street Seaport for a harbor cruise around the southern part of the island and around Ellis Island & the Statute of Liberty. Were it not for the very observant ticket taker, we would have boarded the 5 hour Autumn Tour that goes up the river into upstate New York - we really dodged a bullet there! After the boat tour, we headed over to Canal Street to sample the fine wares of Chinatown. I am not much of a shopper, but ended up picking up a "Chanel" purse, "Dolce & Gabbana" wallet & "cashmere" scarf for $60 - oh the finer things in life =). Corey & I had an interesting experience shopping for purses - we were browsing the storefront when the lady asked us if we were looking for Chanel, we said, "sure" and she motioned us into a back room. When we got to the back room, we found another whole stock of purses (note, this where I scored my Chanel bag). So, of course that was a fun experience! After we had finished shopping, we were ready for some food, so we walked north a little bit until we were in Little Italy where we chowed down on some delicious Italian! Afterwards, we kept heading north & shopped around Soho until we ended up back at King St. We had a couple of hours to rest before heading out to our show, which somehow miraculously survived the stagehand strike that is currently going on here in NYC & has shutdown all but like 7 Broadway productions.

Sunday night we headed over to Broadway for Xanadu. It's not exactly what you would call great theater, but it was funny & entertaining. The craziest part was that we were sitting right on stage - the performers came in & out of the seats around us and constantly used us as quasi-props. For example, at one point, three of the actors are being back-up singers & stood right behind us & tapped us on the head at some point in the song. At another point, one of the actors was singing & was standing right next to me & nudged me with her elbow like she was telling me something. The funniest part was when one of the actresses was giving a line (she was a funny, sarcastic like character) and as a part of her funny bit turned to Chris' Dad & said "what are you doing chewing gum - you're a grown man!" It was hilarious! The most annoying part was that one of the girls kept flirting with Chris - seriously, I'm really not the jealous type, but she was all over it! Whenever she was facing backwards (literally, they are only inches away from our faces at that point), she would say things to him. First was, "hey there, how ya doing?", then came "yeah, I'm talking to you." Next was, "Happy Sunday." Every time she came by she had some cute remark for him =). He was such a champ though - completely stoic! After the show we grabbed some supper & walked around Times Square a bit. Corey & Jeff headed out early the next morning, & it was back to school for me!

We weren't allowed to take pics inside of the theater, but maybe this will give you a better idea of just how up close & personal we were with the actors. If you look behind the girl on the far left, you can see a man sitting on what looks like a stone wall. That's where we were. Incidentally, the redhead was the one who got on to Brian for chewing gum =).

"...we were ready for some food, so we...chowed down on some delicious Italian!"

What do you have against Italians?! I think I would have gone for some pizza or pasta, but if eating an Italian floats your boat then so be it :)

Oooh, rimshot fot Kristy! Ladies and gents, she'll be here all week! ;)

The lady who harassed Chris is Jackie Hoffman...she is a trip and a half. You guys do SUCH a good job treating your visitors to a fun time. Can we hire you to do the same for ours?!

Yes, yes, I'll be around to sign autographs after the show :)

Now for my serious comment: I'm so glad you had a good time with Chris' fam. He and Cory look more and more alike every day! There's no denying they're related! Hopefully you can remember that little "Chanel" spot is in Chinatown so you and I can go there in Feb. You definitely scored some really cute stuff during your Chinatown shopping excursion.
